Yes. After completing the course you will receive a Certificate of Completion and a 396.19 Qualification Form. The qualification form also suggests one of the following along with this training course: at least one year experience as a mechanic or inspector in truck maintenance at a commercial garage, fleet leasing company, or similar facility, or in a motor carrier maintenance program. Please keep both the certificate and the signed qualification form on file in order to qualify for conducting inspections under 49 CFR Section 396.19.

Yes. Upon passing the final exam you receive a Certificate of Completion with a QR code that can be scanned to verify authenticity. The certificate includes your name, the course title, completion date, and a unique verification ID. Fleet managers and auditors can scan the QR code to confirm the certificate is legitimate.

This course is based on federal regulations under 49 CFR Parts 393 and 396, which apply nationwide. Most states accept training that covers these federal standards for qualifying inspectors under Section 396.19. However, some states have additional requirements for inspection licensing or certification. Check with your state's Department of Transportation to confirm any state-specific requirements that may apply in addition to the federal standards.

There is no official FMCSA inspection report form. Section 396.21 allows any format as long as it contains the required information. This course includes a downloadable inspection checklist you can use in the field.

Proof of inspection stickers or decals can be purchased from commercial fleet supply vendors such as J.J. Keller or similar providers. The sticker must include the date of inspection, the name and address where the report is kept, vehicle identification if not clearly marked, and a certification that the vehicle passed inspection.

Yes. Brake systems are covered in two full sections including:

• Service brakes, parking brakes, and emergency brakes
• Brake adjustment and automatic slack adjusters
• ABS requirements and malfunction indicators
• Tractor protection valves and breakaway systems
• All Appendix A failing conditions for brake components

Trailer-specific items including coupling devices, fifth wheels, pintle hooks, safety chains, conspicuity requirements, rear impact guards, and cargo securement are also covered in dedicated sections.

There is no time limit. You have lifetime access. Log in and out as needed, revisit any section, and complete the course at your own pace. The course is approximately 65 minutes of video instruction plus quizzes, but you can take as long as you need.

You have unlimited attempts on every quiz. Review the material and retake until you achieve 100%. The goal is mastery, not gatekeeping. You must pass each section quiz before advancing to the next section.

Yes. All content has been verified against the current Code of Federal Regulations including the February 2026 update to Section 393.11. The course references Appendix A to Part 396, which was redesignated from Appendix G in October 2021.
